(Research, Engage, Design) https://red.library.usd.edu/ is an open
access digital repository for the collection, management, preservation,
and dissemination of intellectual works produced at the University of
South Dakota. It is designed to contain scholarly and creative works by
faculty, staff, students and institutional partners, and can include
journal articles, working papers, technical documents, images, audio and
video, datasets, theses and dissertations, problem reports, honors
projects, capstone projects, and open access textbooks.
RED can
also be used to host journals, publish digital projects, organize and
archive conferences and events, and share special collections. It uses
Digital Commons software, powered by bepress.
RED is a service of the University Libraries.

Celebrate Open Access Week October 25-31
The goal of Open Access is to digitally publish scholarly work making it easily accessible and free to use responsibly by the public. Authors retain control of the integrity of their work and the right to be properly cited and acknowledged. This way of publishing scholarly works looks to supplement or in some cases replace the current pay-for-access journals that limit access through price and permission barriers. Open Access hopes to restore the original intent of scholarly publication by removing these barriers and getting scholarly work seen and used by the most people possible.
Why open access?
Promotes faster transmission of ideas, and builds research infrastructure
Increases visibility and citation counts for authors
Eliminates inequities in access to knowledge
Gives taxpayers access to publicly-funded research

The lessons of the 1973 Wounded Knee Occupation are as crucial as ever in the twenty-first century, as Native American communities persevere to maintain identities, demand rights as sovereign nations, and strive toward self-determination. This presentation offers a look into the complexities of the legacy of the occupation through a series of oral history clips, transcript excerpts, photographs, and other materials.

Takuwe is an educational art exhibit organized by the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies, which focuses on the December 29, 1890 massacre of Lakotas at Wounded Knee. The exhibit consists of songs, visual artworks and poems by forty-seven contemporary Lakota artists. Its narrative structure organizes the words of Lakotas who were there in 1890 and 1891 into seven chronological sections.
