Trial - LibKey
University Libraries will be running a trial for LibKey until May 14.
LibKey is a suite of products designed to connect users to the full text available to them in fewer clicks, including articles found in the library catalog and publishers' websites. As you search for literature in select databases (e.g., PubMed) or the library catalog, you will notice faster access to full-text links. The LibKey Suite consists of four products:
• LibKey Discovery is an API that is integrated into a library management system. (This feature is not currently turned on for the trial.)
• LibKey Link links to full text from publisher and aggregator sources
• LibKey Nomad is a browser extension active at sites researchers visit, including publisher pages, PubMed, Google, etc.). Download the LibKey Nomad browser extension on your desktop or laptop
• LibKey.io is a single search box that allows users to search by DOI or PMID.
LibKey Suite integrates the Unpaywall Open Access database, expanding the library collection to link to most Open Access (OA) content. LibKey has also partnered with Retraction Watch, so it can inform users at the point of article linking about the retraction status of an article before they link to it.
LibKey also provides access to BrowZine. BrowZine is a web or mobile application that allows users to browse, read, and monitor journals available through the University Libraries.

BROKEN BOOK EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY THROUGH END OF THE SEMESTER
A book exhibit arranged by students in an English senior capstone course taught by Jillian Linster, Ph.D, lecturer of English, is on display on the second floor of the University of South Dakota’s I.D. Weeks Library through the end of the semester.
A reception for the exhibit is planned for April 19 at 3 p.m. in front of Archives & Special Collections on the third floor of the library, room 321. Refreshments will be served.
Students in Linster’s class are exploring the history of early modern books and their production. They are learning about the physical features of book objects, such as the difference between folios and octavos and the process of making paper. Archives & Special Collections is supporting the students’ coursework by providing examples of early modern books from the 17th through the 19th centuries for the students to examine.
The students’ interest in damaged volumes and their preservation has led them to curate this exhibit of well-used books from the Archives’ collections.
“A broken book is a sign of a book well used. Our display functions as a reminder that books are meant to be interacted with and explored. Though these books may seem in rough shape, their condition illustrates the history of their use,” said in a statement made by Linster's students. “Seeing the state of these books opens up discussion about the different ways we interact with books, not only for entertainment, but for practical use as well. Special collections serves as a place for the preservation and careful handling of these delicate books, allowing curious readers to examine objects and knowledge from a time long since past.”

The University Libraries are looking for your feedback!
Check your USD emails—the LibQUAL+® Lite Survey link has been sent to USD students, faculty, staff, and administrators. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete! Survey results will help the libraries set priorities to improve library services and collections to support your learning, teaching and research needs.
Students who voluntarily enter their USD email address with their completed survey will be eligible to WIN one of twenty University Libraries Stadium blankets. Please do not complete the survey if you are not at least 18 years old.
To ensure anonymity, email addresses are separated from survey responses and drawing entries once the completed survey is submitted. The survey is open March 21-April 8th, 2023. If you have questions or problems accessing the survey, please contact Caroline Bates at libqual@usd.edu.
