Around 2000, I.D. Weeks Library had the insight to invest in developing access to JSTOR collections. By 2020, the University Libraries initiated subscriptions to multiple JSTOR journal collections (Collections I-VIII and the Biology Collection), JSTOR books, and ArtSTOR. At the outset of the pandemic, ITHAKA, the organization that provides JSTOR and ArtSTOR among other services, gave institutions, including USD, the option to participate in its Expanded Access Program (access to all JSTOR collections at no additional cost). In 2020, the University Libraries opted in to program.

In 2023, ITHAKA is winding down the free expanded access while offering a very affordable approach to continuing access to all JSTOR collections. Accordingly, USD is opting into the ITHAKA’s newest program that will maintain access USD-wide access to all JSTOR journal collections while maintaining our access to JSTOR Books and ArtSTOR. Here’s a summary of the expanded access that the University Libraries will continue for the benefit of USD faculty, students and staff.
