New Database - US Newsstream

US Newsstream, from ProQuest, is now available online through the South Dakota State Library.

This includes same-day publication access to over 250 news titles, and draws from over 1000 separate sources. It also contains trade journals, websites, newswires, television and radio transcripts, blogs, and podcasts. Users can read current U.S. news content, as well as archives stretching back into the 1980s.

US Newsstream contains full-text articles.  What type of articles and other information is included?
According to ProQuest, articles that are generally considered newsworthy are included. However, not everything that’s within the original publication is on the database. The editors determine what is considered a “news” item. Typically book reviews are not included, obituaries maybe. Sometimes a paper may not have electronic distribution rights for an article. No ads, no weather page. This is what is typical, but you can find many exceptions.  Articles typically needed for research purposes are included.

ProQuest does not provide a LibGuide specific to US Newsstream.  Information is contained in the Global Newsstream LibGuide at https://proquest.libguides.com/newsstream

US Newsstream is replacing US Major Dailies.   US Newsstream is provided by a combination of funding from the South Dakota State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
