Located in the I.D. Weeks building, the Archives and Special Collections and the South Dakota Oral History Center are home to nationally and internationally recognized collections related to:
- Native American history and culture
- South Dakota and American politics
- Settlement of the Northern Plains
- The history of the violin and the violin family of instruments
- Collegiate athletics in South Dakota
- The Missouri River Basin

Applications for the University Library U.Discover Scholars will be submitted through the U.Discover process and must outline preliminary plans about use of the Archives in the student’s research. The faculty support letter should include reference to the faculty’s ability to mentor archival research
