The University Libraries and the U.Discover Summer Scholar Program

Beginning in the summer of 2015, the University Libraries will fund and support three U.Discover Scholars. Priority will be given to proposals that incorporate historical inquiry into the methodology and draw upon collections in Archives and Special Collections and the South Dakota Oral History Center.
Located in the I.D. Weeks building, the Archives and Special Collections and the South Dakota Oral History Center are home to nationally and internationally recognized collections related to:
  • Native American history and culture
  • South Dakota and American politics
  • Settlement of the Northern Plains
  • The history of the violin and the violin family of instruments
  • Collegiate athletics in South Dakota
  • The Missouri River Basin
Opportunities abound to use the Mahoney Music collection, American Indian Research Project oral history collection, Oscar Howe papers, USD Photograph collection, Jane Rooker Breeden suffrage papers, William Janklow gubernatorial papers and many other collections.
To learn more about the collections visit http://www.usd.edu/library/sdohc/  and http://www.usd.edu/library/archives-and-special-collections.cfm, or contact Dan Daily, Dean of Libraries at dan.daily@usd.edu
Applications for the University Library U.Discover Scholars will be submitted through the U.Discover process and must outline preliminary plans about use of the Archives in the student’s research. The faculty support letter should include reference to the faculty’s ability to mentor archival research
