Library closure - June 8-10

Facilities Management will be replacing the transformer on the ID Weeks building between June 8 and June 10.  To facilitate the transformer replacement, it will be required to shutdown the electrical service to the building for several days.

The building will be closed for public use during this time.   

Online resources and services will still be available.

 This maintenance was originally scheduled for June 1-3. 

The library will be still be closed on June 1 and closing at 5pm on June 3 due to staffing issues concerning this change.

RED Readership Totals - April 2024

In April, USD RED had 12037 full-text downloads and 54 new submissions were posted, bringing the total works in the repository to 1805. University of South Dakota scholarship was read by 1078 institutions across 140 countries.

Under construction - 1st and 2nd Floor Bathrooms

Between May 6th and August 16th, the front restrooms on 1st Floor and the restrooms on 2nd Floor will be closed for renovation. During that time they will not be accessible.

On May 15, the water will be shut off to the building between 7am - 11am.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Webinar - Editions in the Classroom: Approaches to Engaging Students and Teachers

Join eLaboratories for a 60-minute webinar on Friday, May 31 at 1:00 PM  that explores different approaches to engaging teachers, as well as students of all ages.

Featuring Gwen Fries (Massachusetts Historical Society; Adams Papers Project), Dr. Cathy Moran Hajo (Ramapo College of New Jersey; Jane Addams Papers Project), and Dr. Lindsey Peterson (University of South Dakota; Civil War and Reconstruction Governors of Mississippi), the webinar will begin with an overview from each presenter detailing the events and resources they have developed to foster a community of student and teacher users. They will then identify key takeaways for engaging these audiences by comparing their experiences in a short group discussion.

Job opening - Graduate Research Assistant

The USD University Libraries is hiring a Research Assistant now through the end of the 2024–2025 academic year. The position is for 19 hours/week at $16.00/hour with flexible scheduling for one graduate student, but the position does not include a tuition waiver.

The Research Assistant will be editing twenty-first oral interviews that focus on gender, sexuality, and region and working with USD’s Digital Humanities Librarian to plan a grant-funded scholarly digitization and editing project rooted in Dakota Territorial era materials. Applicants should posses a strong humanities background and attention to detail, and will gain editorial, project planning, and grant application experience.
