"Backwards Compatible" Brian Joel Damon

USD alumni Brian Damon (’80) and Paula Bosco Damon ('91 & '93) are exhibiting their collaborative show titled "Intrepid Coalescing" February 8 – April 14, 2017 in the first and second floor galleries in the I.D. Weeks library building.

Damon is an emerging artist and his wife is a national award-winning writer. Their exhibit is “a courageous attempt of a husband and wife to marry distinctively diverse perspectives of their journey together, spanning nearly 50 years”. Paula explains intrepid means to go about something courageously while coalescing means to unify something.  “With profound subtlety of poetry as an overlay to multimedia, the synergies of art making and storytelling bring about a thought-provoking and passionate reckoning," they write.

What is Love Your Data Week?
The purpose of the Love Your Data (LYD) campaign is to raise awareness about topics related to research data management, sharing, preservation, reuse, and library-based research data services. Academic libraries can help researchers at any stage in their career use good data practices.

LYD week is an event coordinated by research data specialists, mostly working in academic and research libraries or data archives or centers. Research data are the foundation of the scholarly record and crucial for advancing our knowledge of the world around us. #LYD17

Food for Fines

USD Libraries announces the ninth annual Food for Fines program

December 1 – 19, 2016

One food item = $1.00 in overdue fines

Each item of food will credit $1.00 toward your overdue fines
Fine of $4.00 = four food items
Fine of $4.25 = five food items

•    Only unopened, pre-packaged, unexpired food will be accepted
•    No Ramen noodles
•    No perishable food
•    Actual cost of food will not be considered in crediting fines
•    Food accepted for overdue fines only, NOT for ILL or lost book charges
•    Food donations will also be gratefully accepted

EXAMPLES OF ACCEPTABLE FOOD ITEMS
Canned fruits or vegetables     Soup     Canned meat or fish     Pork & beans     Jelly     Peanut butter
Boxed macaroni & cheese     Cereal     Pasta/canned sauce

Weaving Images

Mike Jones, Graduate Art Student

Performance/Demonstration

Friday, November 18, 1-3pm.
Second Floor - Gallery space at the top of the stairs

Mr. Jones will present a performance piece in the form of a demonstration where he will weave images into one artwork. He will begin with a pre-mounted photograph placed on a custom-made loom and in a meditation he will weave strips of another photograph into it in order to gain a better understanding of the subject matter. The amalgamation of the two images will result in an installation that will be displayed the rest of the semester in the first floor library gallery.
