Valencia and Vermillion: An Artists’ Exchange - on display in Spain!
USD's University Libraries and the Departamento de Dibujo (Department of Drawing), Facultad de Bellas Artes de Valencia (Faculty of Fine Arts), Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Technical University of Valencia - UPV), Valencia, Spain, are hosting an art exchange for artists from both Universities.
Eighteen artists from USD will have their work on exhibit in Spain from May 29th through June 16th. Artists from the Department of Drawing, Valencia, will be on exhibit at the University Libraries in the near future.

The Archives and Special Collections will be closed May 29 for Memorial Day and May 30-June 2 for re-carpeting.

ID Weeks 3rd Floor Access
Beginning this week, contractors will be installing new carpet on the 3rd floor of ID Weeks. Between May 10 and approximately June 15, access to ID Weeks 3rd floor will generally be limited to library faculty and staff.
The Circulation department (first floor of ID Weeks), however, will retrieve books upon request from faculty, students, staff, and the public. For safety reasons, there may be limited periods of time when materials cannot be accessed by library staff. Insofar as possible, our objective is to ensure access to the book collection during the project. If you need assistance with accessing books on the 3rd floor or have other questions, please email the Circulation department at circ@usd.edu or call 605-677-5373.

ENGL 210 Poster Exhibition

Forty-two students from Russell Shaffer's ENGL 210 class will exhibit their visual representations of some of America's best novels from the 20th century in a poster exhibition in the first floor University Libraries Gallery. Shaffer states "the beauty of literature is that an author's words mean something different for every reader. How we interpret the written word is up to us."

Trial - The Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection
The University Libraries are trialing Henry Stewart Talks, The Biomedical & Life Sciences Collection. The collection is comprised of more than 2,100 specially prepared, animated lectures by world leading experts. The collection is highly prized for providing researchers easy access to the same experts that they would like to see present at an international conference or hear speak at a guest lecture and is particularly suitable for use in distance, blended, team learning and flipped classroom programs. https://hstalks.com/biosci/

Do you have a story to tell about overcoming a stereotype or prejudice or know of someone who does? If so, fill out the Human Library™ Book Application by Friday, March 3rd.
What is a Human Library™?
A Human Library™ is a safe place for people from different backgrounds to talk one-to-one and learn from each other. People who have overcome a stereotype or prejudice volunteer to be the “books” and readers are encouraged to ask questions about their book’s topic. Readers may borrow a book for up to 20 minutes and may borrow more than one book as time and availability of books allow.
Interested? Come get to know someone else and have a positive conversation(s) that may challenge stereotypes and prejudices on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 at the I.D. Weeks library.
